Pavement Lifecycle

Failure

As fatigued areas are continuously exposed to rain, runoff, traffic, etc, the movement between the cracks increases, resulting in loose pieces of asphalt being forced out of the area exposing the underlying base and creating a pothole.

This further perpetuates the issue because it opens even more of the base to the more water and allows a higher amount to flow underneath the pavement, weakening a larger area of base and thus spreading the overall fatigue throughout the lot.
